Bogor, W Java (ANTARA News)- The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) is offering bio-refinery technology to support the government`s policy on the use of biofuels for transportation facilities.

"We need to provide solutions in the development of biomass through bio-refinery technology, so that it can immediately become an alternative energy source," Deputy of Life Sciences at LIPI Prof. Enny Sudarmonowati stated at the 5th ISIBio international symposium held on Wednesday.

Sudarmonowati remarked that extensive research on the use of non-starch biomass had been conducted by Indonesian researchers, but the development has not been optimal.

According to Sudarmonowati, the development of bio-refinery technology to convert biomass into biofuel and other chemical products requires biomass pretreatment technology to produce enzyme products as catalyst or biocatalyst components.

Trubus.id- Guna mewujudkan produksi energi alternatif dari biomassa yang lebih murah dan efisien, ilmuwan dari lembaga ilmu penelitian Indonesia (LIPI) telah bekerja sama dalam konsorsium untuk melaksanakan riset biorefineri secara terpadu. Yang tergabung dalam konsorsium LIPI ialah Pusat Penelitian Bioteknologi, Pusat Penelitian Biologi, Pusat Penelitian Biomaterial dan Pusat Penelitian Kimia.

"Konsorsium ini mendapat dukungan dari program JST-JICA SATREPS Project," kata Yopi, peneliti Pusat Penelitian Bioteknologi LIPI yang juga manajer proyek biorefineri, saat ditemui Trubus.id di Bogor, Rabu (10/10).

Saat ini, riset yang sedang dikerjakan ialah pengembangan biorefineri terpadu dengan dasar pemanfaatan biomassa dari industri kelapa sawit dan tebu untuk produksi bioethanol serta bioplastik dari mikroba lokal.
